How Important Is My Fan/Follower Count?

This has been one of the most frequently asked questions since the rise of social media. Let’s face it, when we’re checking out a social media profile, whether it be for a brand or an individual - the first thing that grabs your attention is their follower/fan-count. It’s the number one metric we’re all judged by on social media - we look at it and immediately decide how significant we think a page is. Let’s shift this to a brand’s perspective though.
A high follower-count for your brand’s social media page is a vanity metric - Yes, it’s nice to have a large number of followers, as this indicates, at the very least, some level of brand awareness. However, we have to ask ourselves: “How valuable are my followers?” It’s great to have a large number of followers, but if those followers aren’t valuable - if they aren’t the right people following you, and if they aren’t engaging with you, then that number is essentially useless. Rather than stressing out over your follower/fan-count, focus your efforts on developing valuable content that you know your target audience will connect with. Once you consistently do that, increasing your follower-count is the easy part! :)
At the the end of the day, you want the right people following you, and producing/publishing valuable content regularly is the best way to attract them.
